Introduction

The eagerly anticipated 2024 Renault 5 Electric Hot Hatch has been revealed in an online presentation, showcasing what is believed to be its final production version. This model marks a significant evolution of Renault's iconic city hatch from the 1970s and 80s, now reimagined as a modern electric vehicle (EV).

Design and Aesthetics

The new Renault 5 retains many design elements from its concept version, first displayed in February 2023. Notable changes include the removal of the large 'Renault' illuminated script on the front bumper and replacing the concept's flush door handles with more traditional pull-handle items. The vehicle also features smaller black aerodynamic wheels, a black roof, and red pinstripes along the side windows.

Technical Specifications

Under the hood, the Renault 5 is expected to be powered by a 100kW electric motor located on the front axle. It will be equipped with a roughly 50kWh battery pack, offering an estimated 400 kilometers of driving range. The car will be built on the 'CMF-BEV' electric-car platform, now known as 'AmpR Small', designed exclusively for electric vehicles.

Performance and Handling

Handling is anticipated to be a key selling point, with the French brand confirming the use of multi-link independent rear suspension a rare feature for vehicles of this size. This is expected to enhance the driving experience, providing superior control and stability.

Market Release

The 2024 Renault 5 is scheduled for unveiling next year, with showroom arrivals in Europe to follow. Renault Australia has shown significant interest in the model, but confirmation of its availability in the Australian market is still pending.
