Toyota has announced updates to the GR Corolla performance hatch, set to arrive in Australian showrooms in early 2026.

The upgrades focus on improving chassis rigidity, cooling performance, and in-cabin sound quality.

Drawing from Toyota GAZOO Racing’s motorsport experience, the refreshed GR Corolla benefits from enhanced structural rigidity with a 74 per cent increase in structural adhesive applied mainly to the underbody and rear wheel wells.

This change aims to improve vehicle stability and response under high-performance conditions.

A new cool air duct has been added to the secondary intake system. It draws air directly from the front grille at high engine speeds to help reduce intake air temperature and maintain consistent engine performance under heavy load.

The G16E-GTS 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine continues to produce 221kW and 400Nm.

It is available with a six-speed intelligent manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission, both sending power to an all-wheel-drive system with limited-slip differentials.

Interior upgrades include an expanded JBL audio system that now features nine speakers, including a subwoofer positioned in the cargo area.

Toyota has also refined the Active Noise Control system to suppress vibration in the cabin through inverted-phase sound waves.

For the first time, the GR Corolla will include Active Sound Control, which modulates engine sound based on throttle input and drive mode.

Drivers can choose from three sound patterns, each adjustable across three volume settings or switched off entirely.

Further local specifications and pricing for the upgraded GR Corolla will be announced closer to its Australian launch in early 2026.
