Toyota Australia has released the updated 2026 bZ4X electric SUV, introducing significant price reductions and technical upgrades to its battery-electric lineup.

The entry-level front-wheel-drive (2WD) variant is now priced from $55,990 before on-road costs, representing a price reduction of $10,010 compared to the outgoing model's $66,000 launch price.

This new pricing undercuts the Tesla Model Y RWD ($58,900) and the Zeekr 7X RWD ($57,900), while placing it well below its platform twin, the Subaru Solterra, which starts at $63,990.

The range-topping all-wheel-drive (AWD) bZ4X is now priced from $67,990 plus on-road costs, a decrease of $6,910 from its previous price of $74,900.

For comparison, the Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD is listed at $68,900, while the performance-focused Zeekr 7X AWD is priced at $72,900.

The pricing adjustment follows a year of modest sales for the bZ4X, which has recorded 858 registrations year-to-date according to the November VFACTS report.

The Subaru Solterra has recorded 157 sales over the same period.

A key update for the 2026 model year is the introduction of a larger 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery across the range, replacing the previous 71.4kWh unit.

This larger battery contributes to an increased WLTP driving range of 591km for the 2WD variant, up from the previous model's 436km claim.

Power output for the 2WD model has increased from 150kW to 165kW, with torque rated at 268.6Nm.

The AWD variant receives a substantial performance upgrade, with total power output rising by 92kW to a combined 252kW and 438Nm of torque.

Despite the increased performance, the AWD model achieves a WLTP range of 517km.

Toyota has also increased the braked towing capacity of the AWD model to 1500kg, double that of the previous iteration.

Toyota has upgraded the bZ4X’s AC charging capability, fitting a 22kW three-phase on-board charger as standard equipment.

This allows the battery to be fully recharged in approximately 3.5 hours when connected to a compatible three-phase power supply.

DC fast charging is rated at 150kW, allowing for a 10 to 80 per cent charge in approximately 30 minutes under ideal conditions.

Paddle shifters have been added to the steering wheel, allowing drivers to select from four levels of regenerative braking.

AWD models feature front-seat heating, which utilises infrared panels to warm the lower legs of front occupants for improved energy efficiency.

All variants now feature a larger 14.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system and dual wireless smartphone chargers.

Standard equipment includes a heated steering wheel, a powered tailgate with a kick sensor, cabin air ionisation, and a 1500W power outlet in the cargo area.

The safety suite has been expanded to include a driver monitor camera, blind spot monitor with safe exit assist, and a new driver’s knee airbag, bringing the total number of airbags to eight.

The 2WD model is distinguished by new 18-inch alloy wheels with two-tone aero covers and gloss black wheel arches.

The AWD model rides on new 20-inch alloy wheels and includes a digital rearview mirror.

Toyota Australia is offering an incentive package for new private buyers who purchase a bZ4X before the end of 2026.

Customers can choose between a complimentary 7kW home charger (installation not included) or a Chargefox public charging voucher valid for up to one year or 625kWh.

Toyota has also confirmed that a new bZ4X Touring variant will join the local lineup in the second quarter of 2026.

As previously reported, this variant will feature the uprated powertrain and increased rear storage capacity, though specific pricing has not yet been detailed.
