Full pricing and specifications have been confirmed for the 2026 GAC M8 PHEV people mover, priced from $76,590 before on-road costs. 

Announced last month as one of GAC’s three debut models in Australia, the M8 PHEV will launch alongside the AION V electric mid-size SUV and the EMZOOM compact SUV. 

While other electric and hybrid MPVs are available in Australia, the M8 enters the local market as the only people mover model available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. 

Its pricing sees it poised to do battle with the Kia Carnival Hybrid, priced within $40 of the range-topping GT-Line variant ($76,630 before on-roads). 

The M8 PHEV’s powertrain consists of a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, a dual-motor two-speed dedicated hybrid transmission and a 25.57kWh battery, good for a combined system output of 274kW and 630Nm. It has a claimed electric-only range of 106km and a claimed total driving range of 1,032km, both on the WLTP cycle.

Two variants of the M8 PHEV are being offered in Australia: the entry-level Premium and the higher-spec Luxury model grade. 

Standard exterior features on the Premium variant include 18-inch alloy wheels, electrically adjustable and folding side mirrors with memory, LED Daytime Running Lights and indicators, and electrical and remote sliding doors on both sides. 

Inside, there’s seating for seven, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, an eight-speaker sound system, power-adjustable first and second row seats (with two-way power leg rest adjustment in the second row), manually adjustable third row seats, tri-zone air conditioning, and wireless phone charging. 

Its list of standard safety equipment includes, but is not limited to a 360-degree camera, Lane Departure Warning, Emergency Lane Keep Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Front and Rear Parking Sensors, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Door Open Warning, and Blind Spot Detection. 

As for the Luxury variant – priced at $83,590 before on-road costs – exterior additions are fairly minimal over the standard variant, but it still receives acoustic tyres and replaces the standard welcome lights with a second-row carpet welcome light on the right-hand side. 

Its interior changes are much more extensive, gaining a heated steering wheel, four-way leg rest adjustment as well as massage and memory functions for the second row of seats, multicolour ambient lighting, tray tables, manual sunshades in the second row, and an interior fragrance system included among its list of additions. 

The Luxury model grade also gains certain additional safety features, including Reverse Driver Assist, Rear Automatic Emergency Braking, and Automatic Parking Assist.

Furthermore, a 220V Vehicle-to-Load outlet is also listed among the Luxury variant's additional equipment.

Both variants are backed by GAC's eight-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty for electrified vehicles, as well as an eight-year, 200,000km battery warranty, and five years of roadside assist.

A $1,000 cashback deal is included as part of GAC's launch offer for the M8 PHEV along with a free 22kW wall charger and a $500 fuel or charge card for customers purchasing their vehicle before December 31st, 2025.
