These Updates are Coming to the Suzuki Jimny
The 2026 Suzuki Jimny light SUV is about to receive a mid-life update, with new safety features coming for the three-door model.
The 2026 Suzuki Jimny is set to receive a mid-life update, with a host of new safety features on the way according to the Japanese Blog, Creative Trend.
Arriving in Japan in August will see new features like traffic sign recognition with pause and dual camera brake support added to the safety suite across the line-up.
Adaptive cruise control, backwards false start prevention and reverse brake support will also be available, but only on the four-speed automatic models.
These changes apply to the three-door version of the Suzuki Jimny, which was pulled from Australian production orders earlier this year over new legislation mandating specific Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) requirements that came into effect on March 1st, 2025.
The five-door Jimny XL was unaffected by the new legislation, being equipped with AEB, and while this was also true for the three-door, unlike its bigger brother, its system did not meet the specific design requirements.
Sales of the Jimny were able to continue in Australia, as existing stock introduced before the new legislation was still able to be sold.
The new updates to the three-door will bring its safety suite more in-line with that of the five-door.
However, Creative Trend reports that the additional safety features may result in “a significant price increase.”
The Suzuki Jimny has fostered immense popularity in Australia as a result of its off-road rugged ability and affordable price tag.
This has been reflected in its sales figures, having sold nearly 9,700 units in 2024, making it Australia’s 38th best selling car last year.
In its original ANCAP safety test in 2018 it scored a three-star rating – with its weakest area being Safety Assist – however, this rating expired on the 31st of December, 2024. The Jimny is yet to be rated under current ANCAP standards.
