Suzuki are set to launch three new SUVs in Australia, each benefitting from some form of electrification, including EV and Hybrid versions of the Vitara and the all-new Fronx Hybrid.

The Fronx Hybrid Light SUV will be the first to arrive in Australia, expected to go on sale on September 1st.

Built by Suzuki’s Indian subsidiary, Maruti Suzuki, the Fronx – short for Frontier Crossover – first went on sale overseas in 2023.

While Australian specs are yet to be confirmed, it will be the mild-hybrid version coming here, powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder, producing 76kw and 137Nm, paired with a 12V battery.

Sporting a coupe-like design, Suzuki Australia’s general manager, Michael Pachota says the Fronx will open the Light SUV segment to younger buyers.

“With the launch of the all-new Fronx Hybrid, we’re combining unique sporty styling with SUV heritage, to deliver an exciting new product to our line-up. Not only solidifying our presence in the Light SUV segment, but this vehicle will also open the doors to younger buyers looking to upgrade from a smaller hatchback to an SUV,” Pachota said.

Arriving in the first quarter of 2026, the Vitara Hybrid is currently sold overseas in both mild-hybrid and full-hybrid forms, although it is not clear which powertrains the Australian-spec will be offered in.

The 48V mild-hybrid variant is powered by a 1.4-litre Turbocharged four-cylinder in either 2WD or 4WD, producing 95kW and 235Nm and is capable of as little as 5 L/100km on the WLTP cycle in its 2WD form.

The 140V full-hybrid variant comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder with a total system output of 85kW and 138Nm, capable of as little as 4.7L/100km on the WLTP cycle in 2WD form and as little as 5L/100km in 4WD configuration.

Finally, the debut of the electric Vitara in Australia marks the first time a fully electric Suzuki has ever been sold locally, also arriving in the first quarter of 2026.

It is understood that Australia will be receiving the electric 4WD ALLGRIP-e variant, which – sold elsewhere – has a 61kWh battery capacity with an output of 135kW and 300Nm and is capable of around 400km of range on the WLTP cycle.

Globally, 2WD 49kWh and 61kWh variants are also sold, although it has not yet been confirmed whether these variants are also coming to Australia.

Further details on each of Suzuki’s offerings will be revealed closer to their respective releases.
