Orders have been paused for the Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series GXL Wagon automatic, with customer demand outpacing production of the particular variant.

Toyota Australia says the decision to put a pause on orders was motivated by customer transparency and maintaining the ability to deliver cars on time.

“We know in the past, particularly through the COVID-19 pandemic and during the global semi-conductor supply shortage, vehicle supply challenges caused a degree of frustration with our customers with wait times for delivery of new vehicles being extended significantly,” A Toyota Australia spokesperson said.

“We never want to be the cause of that frustration again so together with our dealer network, we are committed to carefully managing any supply issues to provide complete transparency for customers when issues outside our control arise.”

Production for the 70 Series LandCruiser began in 1984. Still sold to this day, it is the longest running variant of the Toyota LandCruiser lineage.

Since it was introduced locally in 1985, more than 346,000 have been sold in Australia.

The 70 Series is available in Wagon, Troop Carrier, Single Cab and Double Cab body styles.

With the V8 70 Series discontinued in late-2024, all variants are by a 2.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine – producing 150kW and 450Nm – offered as either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic depending on the spec.

While orders for the GXL Wagon have closed, orders currently remain open for the rest of the range.

However, production for the 70 Series LandCruiser will stop later this year for eight months starting from September while the model is updated to comply with new emissions regulations being introduced in Australia on November 1st, 2025.
