Nissan has revealed the next-generation Navara, ahead of its Australian arrival in the first quarter of 2026. The new model introduces a redesigned platform, updated diesel powertrain, revised suspension layout and expanded safety and technology features.

The Navara is built on Nissan’s new Alliance platform, shared within the wider Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi group. This links it structurally to the same architecture that underpins the latest Mitsubishi Triton, although the Navara carries its own tuning, design and equipment package.

Power is provided by a 2.4-litre bi-turbo diesel engine developing 150kW and 470Nm. It is paired exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission, with official combined fuel consumption listed at 7.7L/100km.

The new-generation model adopts a dual-range four-wheel-drive system with low-range gearing and a standard electronic locking rear differential. Upper grades add an advanced “Super 4WD” system with an open centre differential and seven terrain modes.

Suspension calibration has been developed locally by Premcar, following an extensive test program across sealed roads, corrugations, towing conditions and heavy-load scenarios. The program was designed to refine stability, steering response and comfort across the region’s varied conditions.

Unlike the outgoing Navara, which used rear coil springs on most dual-cab variants, the 2026 model shifts to a leaf-spring rear suspension layout. This configuration aligns the new Navara with competitors such as the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger, which use similar ladder-frame and leaf-spring arrangements.

The chassis retains a ladder-frame construction, electric power steering and front double-wishbone suspension. Nissan says the setup has been calibrated to support both unladen driving and maximum payload conditions.

The new Navara will launch exclusively as a double-cab pickup, reflecting demand patterns from the previous generation. It maintains a 3,500kg braked towing capacity and seats five occupants.

Exterior design introduces a new V-strut grille inspired by historical Nissan utes and integrates C-shaped LED lighting across the range. A three-slot motif above the grille provides a visual link to the D21 Navara.

The PRO-4X variant adopts black exterior detailing, a sports bar and Lava Red accents on key trim elements. It also receives 17-inch wheels fitted with all-terrain tyres to support its off-road positioning.

Inside, all grades feature a 9-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 7-inch driver display and digital radio are standard, while higher grades add wireless phone charging and additional interior detailing.

The Navara includes eight airbags and a comprehensive suite of active safety systems. These include lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, emergency lane assist and pedal-misapplication prevention.

Adaptive cruise control is available on selected grades, complementing high-beam assist, driver monitoring and intelligent speed-limiter functions. LED headlamps and taillights are standard across the lineup.

Nissan’s ownership program will apply to the new Navara, including warranty coverage, capped-price servicing and roadside assistance when serviced within the dealer network. A full list of locally developed accessories will be announced closer to launch.

Nissan has also previewed a possible future off-road flagship with the PRO-4X Warrior Concept developed alongside Premcar. The concept showcases lifted suspension, wider track, 32-inch tyres, revised protection elements and a modified bullbar design.

Premcar notes that the concept represents exploratory development themes rather than confirmed production specifications. More information about a production Warrior variant will be shared in 2026.

Pricing and detailed grade specifications for the new Navara will be released closer to launch. The new model arrives as the Navara marks its 40th anniversary in Australia and New Zealand.
