Geely Starray EM-i Plug-in Hybrid Coming to Australia
The new plug-in hybrid is Geely's second Australian model, arriving in late-2025.
Geely have announced their second model coming to the Australian market, the Starray EM-i, arriving in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid SUV was initially launched and sold in China as the Galaxy Starship 7 (which is not, in fact, a space craft) in 2024, and rides on the same Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA) platform as the closely-related Geely EX5 mid-size electric SUV currently sold in Australia.
The new model marks the Australian debut of Geely’s EM-i “Super Hybrid” technology, with the Starray EM-i being powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated in-line 4-cylinder, paired with a 18.4kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery and an electric motor for a combined system output of 193kW sent to the front wheels.
Drivers can select one of three modes for the Starray EM-i’s hybrid system: “Pure” for electric-only driving, “Hybrid” which switches between the electric motor and internal combustion engine, and “Power” which sees the electric motor and petrol engine work in tandem.
The Starray EM-i also supports a 3.3kW maximum output of vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality.
Australian pricing and further details on its local specification are set to be revealed closer to the launch of the Starray EM-i later in 2025.
