Geely Auto Group has confirmed its entry into the Australian market, set for the first half of 2025, with the launch of the EX5 electric SUV. The model was unveiled at the 2024 Automechanika Frankfurt, marking Geely's expansion into key markets including Australia, Norway, Thailand, and Indonesia.

The EX5 will be Geely’s first electric SUV to arrive in Australia, and it shares its powertrain with the Galaxy E5, currently available in China. The EX5 is expected to feature a single front motor producing 218 PS (160 kW) and 320 Nm of torque.

This setup allows the EX5 to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, positioning it as a competitive option in the growing electric SUV market.

The SUV will come with two battery options, both utilizing Aegis short blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology. The 49.52 kWh battery offers a claimed CLTC range of 440 km, while the larger 60.22 kWh battery provides up to 530 km on the CLTC cycle.

However, it is expected that range figures will be lower on the more stringent WLTP cycle used in Europe and Australia.

Built on Geely’s GEA Global Intelligent Electric Architecture, the EX5 optimizes interior space and energy efficiency. The vehicle is also equipped with advanced features, including a 10.2-inch digital instrument display, a head-up display, and a 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen running on the Flyme Auto system, co-developed with Meizu.

Additionally, the EX5 is expected to feature a 16-speaker Flyme Audio system, with headrest speakers for the driver, enhancing the overall driving experience.

Geely is the latest Chinese automotive manufacturer to enter the Australian market, with a rapid increase in new brands including Zeekr and Leapmotor.
