Jaecoo Australia has officially confirmed the specifications and aggressive launch pricing for the 2026 Jaecoo J5 EV, positioning the new model as a high-value contender in the rapidly expanding small electric SUV segment.

Arriving in Australian dealerships in January 2026, the model will launch as a single highly equipped variant known simply as the J5 EV.

To kick off its entry into the market, Jaecoo is offering a promotional price of $36,990 drive away for the first 1,000 buyers.

Once this initial allocation is exhausted, the vehicle will be priced at $35,990 before on-road costs.

This pricing strategy allows the J5 EV to undercut or match several established electric competitors, including its sibling, the Chery Omoda E5 Urban ($36,990 before on-roads), the MG4 51kWh Excite ($36,990 before on-roads), and the BYD Dolphin Premium ($36,990 before on-roads).

It also positions the J5 EV competitively against the Geely EX5 Complete ($40,999 before on-roads), the GWM Ora Lux ($34,490 before on-roads), the BYD Atto 3 Essential ($39,990 before on-roads), the BYD Atto 2 51kWh Dynamic ($31,990 before on-roads), and the Leapmotor B10 Style ($38,990 before on-roads).

Measuring 4,380 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height with a 2,620 mm wheelbase, the J5 EV is built on a shared platform with the Chery Omoda E5 but is positioned as a more premium offering.

Under the skin, it features a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 155kW of power and 288Nm of torque, enabling a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 7.7 seconds.

Energy is supplied by a 58.9kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, providing a pure electric range of 402km (WLTP) and a rated energy consumption of 143 Wh/km.

Charging is handled via a driver-side front port supporting DC fast charging up to 130kW, which can replenish the battery from 30% to 80% in approximately 28 minutes.

For AC charging, the vehicle supports 6.6kW single-phase or 10.3kW three-phase connections.

The J5 EV features a minimalist yet functional interior characterised by "pet-friendly" synthetic leather made from a durable, antibacterial, and wear-resistant silicone-based material.

The cabin is dominated by a 13.2-inch LCD infotainment touchscreen and an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster. Standard features include dual-zone automatic air conditioning, heated and ventilated front seats, and a 50W wireless charger with integrated cooling.

Safety is a core focus, with the vehicle equipped with seven airbags and a comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite, including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and a 360-degree Around View Monitor.

The exterior design incorporates "baby Range Rover" styling cues, active aero flaps in the front grille, and 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Continental tyres.

Ownership is supported by a significant "888" coverage plan, consisting of an 8-year unlimited kilometre vehicle warranty, 8 years of capped-price servicing, and an 8-year battery warranty.
