XPENG Motors has announced that the XPENG G6, its all-electric SUV, has received a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. This marks the third five-star rating for the company’s international models, following the G9 and P7, which also received top marks in 2023.

The G6 is expected to enter the Australian market in late 2024, with pre-orders already initiated. Pricing details are anticipated to be announced in September 2024.

The Euro NCAP rating is based on comprehensive tests that evaluate a vehicle's ability to protect its occupants and road users. The G6 achieved 88% for adult occupant protection, 85% for child occupant protection, 81% for vulnerable road users, and 75% for safety assist systems.

The vehicle's performance in frontal and lateral impact tests was rated highly, particularly for adult and child occupants, where protection for critical body areas was either "good" or "adequate."

XPENG's G6 features integrated die-casting technology, improving structural stiffness by 83% compared to traditional internal combustion engine designs. Additionally, its battery is safeguarded by a three-layer anti-collision structure and eight anti-collision compartments, ensuring resilience against impacts.

In terms of active safety, the G6 includes an advanced autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system, which effectively responds to other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists. Other features, such as a fatigue detection system, lane assist, and speed assistance, further contribute to its high safety assist score.

The G6 will be available in two versions for the Australian market: the Standard and the Long. The Standard variant is equipped with a 66kWh lithium-ion battery, capable of covering up to 435 kilometres on a single charge per the WLTP standard.

The Long variant houses an 87.5kWh battery, extending the range to 570 kilometres. Both models support fast charging, recharging from 10% to 80% in about 20 minutes.

XPENG has positioned the G6 against competitors such as Tesla’s Model Y, targeting electric SUV buyers with competitive features and specifications.

The G6 is expected to feature a 15-inch infotainment screen, an 18-speaker sound system, and multiple smartphone charging options in overseas markets. Final specifications for the Australian market will be confirmed closer to the vehicle’s release.
