The Facelifted Chery Tiggo 7 May Receive a Power Output Cut
The new Chery Tiggo 7 will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine with less power than its predecessor according to government documents.
The facelifted Chery Tiggo 7 mid-size SUV has been revealed in Australian government approval documents but may be hit with a power output cut.
A type approval document on the ROVER portal – the Australian Government’s platform for applications and approvals under the Road Vehicle Standards Legislation – revealed specifications for the latest Tiggo 7 model, expected to drop the “Pro” badge from its name.
The documents have revealed aesthetic updates to the Tiggo 7, most notably a revised front end and taillight design akin to its recently launched Super Hybrid counterpart.
The documents also detail a displacement drop for the Tiggo 7 – down to 1.5-litres from the current 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine – along with a power output decrease from 137kW to 108kW. No torque figures were detailed in the documents
The dual-clutch transmission is also set to lose a ratio, down from seven speeds to a new six-speed gearbox.
This 1.5-litre engine is almost certainly the same as the 108kW and 210Nm, 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine used in the Chery Tiggo 4 and Chery C5.
This engine is also used in the recently launched South African-spec Chery Tiggo 7 in the entry-level Prime trim level, which is then upgraded to a 1.6-litre engine in the Prestige and Legacy variants.
Chery are yet to confirm whether or not the 1.6-litre will be discontinued in the Chery Tiggo 7 in Australia or if the model will eventually adopt a line-up similar to its South African equivalent.
Further details on the Australian release of the updated Chery Tiggo 7 are also yet to be officially announced.
