Ford has shared additional information about its upcoming 2026 Ranger Super Duty, a heavy-duty mid-size ute designed for demanding workloads. The vehicle, set to launch in early 2026, is aimed at industries requiring higher towing and payload capacities compared to standard mid-size utes.

The Ranger Super Duty will feature an eight-stud wheel hub, 18-inch steel wheels, and 33-inch all-terrain tyres, providing increased strength and load-carrying capacity. These components are adapted from Ford’s larger F-250 Super Duty, offering a focus on durability and suitability for rough terrain.

Ford has released some performance specifications, including a braked towing capacity of up to 4,500kg, a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of 4,500kg, and a Gross Combined Mass (GCM) of 8,000kg. These figures place it above competitors such as the Toyota HiLux and Mitsubishi Triton in terms of towing and payload capabilities.

The development of the Ranger Super Duty involved feedback from fleet operators to better address the needs of industries like agriculture, construction, and emergency services. Enhancements include heavy-duty suspension components, full-time 4WD with locking differentials, and multiple off-road drive modes.

While powertrain options have not been confirmed, the model is likely to include a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine, with potential adjustments to support its increased workload. Ford has also hinted at the possibility of a plug-in hybrid option, but details remain unclear.

Interior updates are expected to prioritise functionality, with features such as onboard payload monitoring, vinyl flooring, and the SYNC 4 infotainment system. Optional features may include additional power outlets and technology designed to simplify towing and off-road navigation.

Manufactured in Thailand and developed with input from Ford's Australian engineering team, the Ranger Super Duty is set to be introduced to the Australian and New Zealand markets in 2026. Pricing and a more comprehensive feature list are expected closer to launch.

This new information highlights Ford’s focus on addressing gaps in the mid-size ute market by catering to industries with higher performance and durability needs. However, full specifications and pricing will determine how it compares to existing models in the segment.
