Mitsubishi Small Electric SUV Confirmed
The US market has been promised its first electric Mitsubishi, with the vehicle to be based on a platform shared with Nissan and Renault.
Mitsubishi is currently working on a small electric SUV to debut in 2026, based on the same underpinnings as the Nissan Leaf.
According to industry publication Automotive News, US dealers were informed by Mitsubishi the company was working on a small battery-powered SUV for launch in 2026.
While the model will be the first electric vehicle from Mitsubishi to be sold in the US, it’s not clear whether it will join the brand’s line-up in Australia.
The model is likely to be one of the nine battery-electric models teased back in 2023 as part of the company’s future product plans – to be developed under the Renault-Mitsubishi-Nissan Alliance.
Adopting SUV-coupe styling, the model is said to be based on the same architecture used by the forthcoming Nissan Leaf, Nissan Ariya, and several Renault electric vehicles.
In 2024, Mitsubishi’s US arm again teased several unreleased models, with one vehicle (top) appearing to share the same rear body lines and wing mirrors as Nissan Leaf prototypes seen testing.

Mitsubishi was the first major car company to offer an electric vehicle in Australia in the modern era, releasing the i-Miev back in 2010.
While the i-Miev offered an all-electric driving range of just 150 kilometres when it was new, the platform on which the 2026 Mitsubishi SUV is based offers up to 489km of electric driving in the case of the closely-related Nissan Ariya.
