Mitsubishi Motors Unveils Updated Outlander PHEV Model Ahead of Australian Release
Mitsubishi Motors has unveiled an updated version of its plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) Outlander crossover SUV, with the model set to reach Australia in the near future. The refreshed Outlander is expected to hit Japanese showrooms this Autumn and European markets by spring 2025, with an Australian release following in 2025.
The updated petrol variant will also be introduced in 2025, with both the PHEV and petrol models slated for refreshes across North America, Australia, and New Zealand. The Outlander PHEV is positioned as Mitsubishi's flagship model, designed with the "I-Fu-Do-Do" concept, meaning "authentic and majestic" in Japanese.
Maintaining its three-row, seven-seat layout, the Outlander retains key features like the twin-motor 4WD and Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC). The Australian version will see enhancements including a larger battery capacity, upgraded from 20kWh to 22.7kWh, which boosts the electric-only range to 86 kilometres (WLTP mode). Additionally, power output increases to 225kW, delivering improved acceleration.
The ride quality has been refined with optimized S-AWC, new tyres, and updated suspension for a more stable experience. Inside, the Outlander PHEV benefits from a 12.3-inch navigation display, enhanced connectivity, and ventilated seats for increased comfort. An audio system developed in collaboration with Yamaha Corporation is also featured, offering high sound quality.
Originally launched in 2013 as the world's first plug-in hybrid 4WD SUV, the Outlander PHEV has since sold over 370,000 units across two generations globally, including in key markets like Europe, North America, and Australia. The model is currently recognized as the world's best-selling plug-in hybrid 4WD SUV.
