The Kia Tasman, Kia’s first dual-cab utility in Australia, has received a five-star ANCAP safety rating under the 2023-2025 testing criteria.

The safety rating follows assessments across four areas: Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable Road User Protection, and Safety Assist.

Utes continue to dominate Australian vehicle sales, accounting for more than a quarter (25.3%) of all new vehicles sold, according to the latest June 2025 data from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).

The Tasman achieved scores of 85% for Adult and Child Occupant Protection, 74% for Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 80% for Safety Assist.

In crash tests, the Tasman recorded high scores for both adult and child occupants in the frontal offset test, indicating low injury risk.

However, ANCAP identified an issue in the full-width frontal crash test, noting the pelvis of the driver dummy slipped beneath the lap section of the seatbelt, resulting in a penalty.

ANCAP CEO Carla Hoorweg stated, “Fleet buyers and potential Tasman customers across the country have been eagerly awaiting the Tasman’s safety rating, and this five-star result will be welcome news.”

The Kia Tasman joins competitors such as the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max, and BYD Shark 6, all of which also hold five-star ANCAP safety ratings.

The five-star rating applies exclusively to Kia Tasman 4x4 dual-cab variants currently available; the X-Line and X-Pro variants, as well as upcoming 4x2 and single-cab and dual cab-chassis versions, remain unrated.

Ms. Hoorweg added, “The dual cab shopping list is already healthy, and we expect to see it grow further with other new contenders entering the market in the coming months.”
