Hyundai Motor Company has introduced the IONIQ 5 N, its latest electric vehicle (EV), initially presented at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This model marks Hyundai's entry into high-performance EVs under its N brand.

Japanese professional racecar driver Keiichi Tsuchiya shared his experience driving the IONIQ 5 N, particularly noting its capabilities in drifting and agility. This model appears to mark a shift in Hyundai's approach to EV manufacturing.

The IONIQ 5 N is built on Hyundai Motor Group's Electrified-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It is designed to emphasize three aspects: Corner Rascal, Racetrack Capability, and Everyday Sportscar, aiming to combine performance with everyday usability.

Enhancements in the IONIQ 5 N include a dual-motor AWD system and rally-inspired handling. The vehicle features an upgraded steering column with the N R-MDPS system for improved steering response. The body structure has been reinforced with additional welding points and adhesives for increased rigidity.

The vehicle also introduces technologies like the N Pedal and N Drift Optimizer to improve handling and drifting abilities, supported by a torque distribution system and an electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD).

In terms of Racetrack Capability, the IONIQ 5 N is equipped with high-powered electric motors and an N Grin Boost feature for temporary acceleration enhancement. It also features an N Launch Control system and a Track SOC for battery consumption tracking. The model includes a battery thermal management system and a regenerative braking system, N Brake Regen, to maintain performance under track conditions.

As an Everyday Sportscar, the IONIQ 5 N incorporates N e-shift for controlled power delivery and N Active Sound +, offering various sound themes. The vehicle retains the V2L feature, allowing it to power other devices.

In terms of design, the IONIQ 5 N has been adjusted to be lower, wider, and longer than the standard IONIQ 5. It features a specialized front fascia, aerodynamic elements, and high-performance tyres. The interior includes a redesigned N steering wheel, N seats with reinforced bolsters, and sustainable materials throughout the cabin.
