The 2026 Mazda 6e electric sedan has been confirmed for the Australian market, set for a local launch in the middle of next year. 

Initially unveiled in China as the Mazda EZ-6 in April 2024 – created under the joint Changan Mazda venture – the rebadged 6e was announced for the European and UK markets earlier this year. 

The 6e is effectively the replacement for the Mazda6 mid-size sedan and wagon, which was discontinued in Australia back in January. 

While full details are yet to be confirmed for Australia, according to Mazda’s provisional specs, local 6e examples will be powered by a 190kW rear electric motor.

Equipped with a 78kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery, the 6e’s driving range will exceed 500km according to the brand, and will be capable of charging from 30 to 80 per cent in 15 minutes. 

When it lands in Australia, the 6e is set to do battle with other electric mid-size sedan offerings such as the Tesla Model 3, BYD Seal, and the Hyundai Ioniq 6. 

Full Australian pricing is yet to be confirmed, but Mazda are targeting a sub-$55,000 starting price.
