Chery Australia has announced that the Tiggo 4 has been awarded a 5-star safety rating by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). The rating is based on local testing of the Tiggo 4 and crash test data from its closely related model, the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, which was assessed by ANCAP in late 2023.

The Tiggo 4 scored 88% for Adult Occupant Protection, 87% for Child Occupant Protection, 79% for Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 85% for Safety Assist. These scores were achieved through a combination of crashworthiness assessments and evaluations of active safety systems.

The Tiggo 4 is equipped with dual frontal airbags, side chest-protecting airbags, and side head-protecting airbags. A centre airbag is also included to reduce injury risk in side-impact collisions. Structurally, the Tiggo 4 provides similar occupant protection to the Tiggo 7 Pro, but it features a different advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), which underwent full testing.

ANCAP noted that the Tiggo 4’s Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system demonstrated good performance, avoiding or mitigating collisions in all test scenarios. The vehicle’s lane support system was awarded full points, showing strong performance in emergency lane-keeping scenarios.

Chery Australia has advised that a recall is in place for some Tiggo 4 vehicles due to a software issue affecting AEB compliance. Vehicles built before 1 November 2024 may not meet Australian regulatory requirements, as the AEB system may lack an audible alert. Owners of affected vehicles should contact a Chery dealership for a free software update.

Chery has confirmed that the ANCAP-tested vehicles were not impacted by this issue. The 5-star safety rating applies to Tiggo 4 models built from 1 November 2024, with earlier models eligible once the recall (Australian Government Recall REC-006263) is completed.

The Tiggo 4 is available in two variants: the Urban, priced at $23,990 driveaway, and the Ultimate, priced at $26,990 driveaway.
