BYD Announces New Discounted Pricing Across Range
After a record year of sales, BYD has dropped prices across its line-up – while cutting some variants and adding others.
BYD’s 2025 model line-up has been updated, with new pricing saving buyers up to $5900.
The latest Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal, and Sealion 6 models all benefit from reduced pricing on selected variants – with only the recently-launched Shark 6 plug-in hybrid ute missing out on the changes.
BYD’s Australian distributor, EVDirect, has also made changes down the range, swapping Standard and Dynamic variants of the Atto 3 electric SUV and Dolphin electric hatchback respectively for the new Essential trim.
From 2025, buyers can now select from either the Essential entry-level variant or the range-topping Premium trim.
Kicking off the range is the 2025 BYD Dolphin Essential, available from $29,990 before on-road costs, while the Dolphin Premium has been slashed by $5900 – now priced from $36,990 before on-road costs.
Announced in recent weeks, the BYD Dolphin Essential is the first electric vehicle on sale in Australia for less than $30,000.
While the Atto 3 Essential is priced from $39,990 before on-road costs, the Atto 3 Premium is now $2509 cheaper than the 2024 model – available from $44,990 before on-road costs.
However, the Atto 3 Essential is no longer offered with a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, roof rails, or 15.6-inch infotainment screen – replaced with a 12.8-inch screen. The option for Surf Blue exterior paint has also been deleted.
BYD has added a PM2.5 particulate air filter for the Atto 3 cabin, as well as adding a digital key and the option for a Bluetooth key for compatible smartphones.
The changes bring the Dolphin and Atto 3 closer into line with the new Sealion 6 medium plug-in hybrid SUV, also available in either Dynamic and Premium variants, and priced from $45,990 and $52,990 before on-road costs respectively – representing a saving of $3000 in the case of the Dynamic.
Only the BYD Seal electric sedan remains as a three-variant model, with lower pricing announced across all three.
The 2025 BYD Seal Dynamic is available from $46,990 before on-road costs, while the Seal Premium is priced from $52,990 before on-road costs, and the Seal Performance is available from $61,990 before on-road costs – saving buyers $2898, $2808, and $3758 respectively when compared with 2024 vehicles.
All Seal models now gain wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, an electric sunshade, a cabin air particulate filter, digital and Bluetooth keys, and minor changes to paint options.
Seal Dynamic and Performance variants also benefit from updated suspension.
The new pricing comes after BYD recorded a gangbuster year for sales, reporting almost 20,500 vehicles as sold in 2024 – a jump of almost 65 per cent year-on-year.
The BYD Seal was the second best-selling medium passenger vehicle in 2024, only being outsold by the perennial Toyota Camry.
Despite emerging success in Australia, BYD beat rival Tesla in 2024 for the number of vehicles made.
Both companies recorded production numbers of more than 1.7 million vehicles, but BYD was able to pull out ahead, making just 4500 more cars than Tesla.
