Australia's 4X4 Landscape Just Changed: BYD’s DENZA Reveals Shock B5 & B8 Pricing

DENZA has released full Australian and New Zealand pricing for its first local models, the B5 and B8 Super Hybrid SUVs, ahead of showroom arrivals later this year.

The figures position both vehicles significantly below established competitors in the large off-road SUV segment, marking one of the most disruptive price entries in recent years.

The B5, which competes with the Toyota LandCruiser Prado and GWM Tank 500, will start from $74,990 before on-road costs, with the B5 Leopard priced at $79,990.

For comparison, the Prado range spans $72,500 to $99,990 before on-road costs, while the Tank 500 PHEV is priced from $79,990 drive-away.

DENZA’s pricing places the entry B5 just above the Prado GX but below mid-spec Prado variants, while the Leopard undercuts many Prado grades and aligns closely with the Tank 500 PHEV despite offering substantially higher combined outputs.

Measuring 4888mm long and 1970mm wide on a 2800mm wheelbase, the B5 uses BYD’s DM-O plug-in hybrid system combining a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, twin electric motors and a 31.8kWh Blade Battery.

System outputs are listed at 400kW and 760Nm with a claimed 0–100km/h time of 4.8 seconds. Global features include locking front and rear differentials (standard across the range) and a 15.6-inch rotating central touchscreen. WLTC EV-only range is rated at 90km.

The larger B8 is priced at $91,000 for the seven-seat version and $97,990 for the six-seat variant.

This positions it below Toyota’s LandCruiser 300 Series, which starts from $97,990 and extends to $146,910 before on-road costs.

The B8’s entry price undercuts the base LandCruiser 300 GX while offering system outputs of 425kW and 760Nm.

The B8 measures 5195mm long and 1954mm wide with a 2920mm wheelbase. It features a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with dual electric motors and a 36.8kWh Blade Battery.

Specifications include DiSus-P intelligent damping suspension with up to 310mm ground clearance, front and rear locking differentials, a 17.3-inch central display, a 12.3-inch driver instrument cluster, and a Heads Up Display (W-HUD).

DENZA COO Mark Harland said the brand has received “almost 5,000 expressions of interest” and described the pricing as a key part of introducing “a gateway to automotive luxury at price points which are unrivalled in the segment.”

Orders for both models are now open. DENZA says the first 2,000 B5 customers will receive a premium paint upgrade and interior trim enhancement valued at approximately $1,818.
