The Alfa Romeo Tonale Ti Plug-In Hybrid is set to join the range, CarSauce understands, offering buyers a cheaper alternative to the Tonale Veloce Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV).

However, those wanting to go for the higher-spec Tonale Veloce PHEV will also pay less, with Alfa Romeo lowering the price two years after deliveries began.

It comes ahead of changes which will see a Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) exemption end for PHEVs on 1 April 2025.

While the Alfa Romeo Tonale Veloce PHEV is now priced from $75,000 before on-road costs – a price-cut of $3500 – buyers in the market for a plug-in hybrid will soon have access to the Alfa Romeo Tonale Ti PHEV for $69,000 before on-road costs.

It’s not clear at this stage whether any features have been removed from the Tonale Veloce PHEV.

Both PHEV variants are powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and six-speed automatic transmission, combined with an electric motor driving the rear wheels – fed from a 15.5kWh battery.

The total power output is listed as 208kw – allowing for a 0-100km/h sprint time of 6.2 seconds – and offering a claimed electric driving range of up to 60 kilometres before the petrol engine takes over.

The $69,000 plus on-road costs price-tag for the Tonale Ti PHEV marks an $18,100 premium over the entry-level Tonale Ti Hybrid, which uses a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine making 118kW and 240Nm, mated toa 48-volt mild-hybrid set-up consisting of a 15kW electric motor.

While exact specifications have yet to be confirmed by Alfa Romeo, it’s expected the Tonale Ti PHEV will offer similar features to its hybrid counterpart, along with a few extras.

This means a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 360-degree cameras, keyless entry and start, AEB, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with assist, front and rear cross-traffic alert, matrix LED headlights, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

For an extra $4500, buyers can option the Lusso Pack, which adds black leather-accented upholstery, eight-way powered heated and ventilated front seats with memory, a heated steering wheel, dark grey stitching, a 14-speaker 465-watt Harman Kardon audio system, and heated washer nozzles.

A dual-pane panoramic sunroof is also available for $2500, while premium paint costs $1990. Tri-coat premium paint is $2500.

The Alfa Romeo Tonale Ti Plug-In Hybrid is expected to go on sale in the coming weeks, priced from $69,000 plus on-road costs.
