Pricing for the 2025 Volkswagen Golf range has been released, with a new lower starting price for the iconic hatchback.

Volkswagen says it’s adopting a new ‘three-tier’ approach – offering buyers a value model, a luxury model, and a performance model within the line-up.

At the value end is the entry-level Golf Life, which is now priced from $38,690 before on-road costs – a $500 saving over the outgoing model – and comes with an updated 10.3-inch infotainment screen as standard.

Offering a slice of luxury in a small hatch body, the Golf Style is priced from $43,690 plus on-road costs – and can be had for less than $50,000 before on-road costs with Volkswagen’s Sound & Vision Package and panoramic sunroof options ticked.

The sporty-style Golf R-Line is now priced from $47,990 before on-road costs – an increase of $5700 – with buyers gaining progressive steering, heated and cooled front sport seats, a drive-mode selector, and R-Line interior and exterior tweaks.

The Golf Life, Style, and R-Line are all powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 110kW and 250Nm, driving the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

At the performance end, the perennial Golf GTI gets a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 195kW and 370Nm and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, and is now priced from $58,990 plus on-road costs – an increase of $2900 over the 2024 model.

An increase in power has the GTI matching the power figures of the critically-acclaimed Golf GTI 40 Years model of 2016 – known overseas as the Clubsport – while also being 0.4 of a second faster to 100km/h.

At the top of the ladder is the flagship all-wheel-drive Volkswagen Golf R – also powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, this time with power upped to 245kW – is available from $70,990 before on-road costs, marking a $400 increase.

Volkswagen has also introduced a Golf R Black Edition from $72,490 plus on-road costs, which adds black styling accents throughout.
