The 2025 Ram 1500 arrived in Australia, with the US pick-up’s large ‘Hemi’ V8 being dropped from the range in favour of a new twin-turbo ‘Hurricane’ six-cylinder engine.

While the new entry-level Ram 1500 is priced the same as the previous equivalent – with the ‘RamBox’ rear storage system – two cheaper variants have been dropped from the range for the new year.

Ram now offers just two variants of the pick-up: the base 1500 Laramie Sport (with RamBox) for $141,950 before on-road costs, and the 1500 Limited for $159,950 – an increase of $3000 over the outgoing Limited.

Despite losing two cylinders, the addition of two turbochargers means the 3.0-litre petrol six-cylinder engine produces 7.6 per cent and 14 per cent more power and torque respectively in the base model, compared with the retired 5.7-litre V8.

The new Ram 1500 Laramie Sport now puts out 313kW and 635Nm, with the new Hurricane engine matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 1500 Limited gets a performance bump to 403kW and 707Nm.

Owners have the option of driving the big ute in two-wheel drive to save fuel, or 4WD Auto can be selected on the dash for increased traction on the road. For off-roading, 4WD High or Low can be selected.

Five driving modes can now also be selected, depending on the use and environment: sport, tow, snow, off-road, and auto.

Along with a minor facelift with LED headlights, most of the changes are inside.

The Ram 1500 Laramie Sport now comes with a 14.4-inch infotainment screen – with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and reversing camera – and an additional 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen for the front passenger, joining the carry-over 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 10-inch colour head-up display.

The passenger’s screen offers Bluetooth music streaming, wired smartphone mirroring with access to videos, exterior camera views, and a co-pilot mode, which allows access to the satellite navigation system. A privacy film has been added to keep from distracting the driver.

Standard on the Laramie Sport is a 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, automatic retracting side steps, front and rear parking sensors, RamBox storage system, and a spray-in bedliner.

Also new for 2025 are dual wireless smartphone chargers, a powered tailgate, and redesigned 20-inch alloy wheels.

Step up to the 1500 Limited and, along with the increase in power, buyers now get a 125-litre fuel tank (compared to 98L in the Laramie Sport), LED headlights and tail-lights with animation, proximity lighting with Ram logo puddle lamps, massage function on the front seats, traffic-sign recognition, and new 22-inch alloy wheels.

These, in addition to a digital rear-view mirror, 360-degree cameras, air suspension with three height settings as standard.

The Laramie Sport has a payload of 863kg with a towing capacity of 4500kg braked on a 70mm ball, while the Limited is limited to 782.5kg and 4200kg respectively.

All Ram pick-ups come with a three-year/100,000km warranty, and three-years/100,000km of complimentary roadside assistance.
