After several delays, the 2025 Peugeot E-208 is set to launch in Australia in the coming months, priced from $49,990 before on-road costs, according to information obtained by CarSauce.

Initially announced by Peugeot in mid-2023, the E-208 GT is to be powered by a 115kW/260Nm electric motor driving the front wheels, fed from a 51kWh battery.

While the vehicle is advertised as having a driving range of approximately 400 kilometres in Europe, in Australia, the E-208 has an official claimed range of 331 kilometres on a single charge (WLTP).

Overseas, the E-208 GT comes with a 10-inch infotainment screen, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, a 15-watt wireless smartphone charging pad, ambient lighting, aluminium sports pedals, heated front seats, keyless entry and start, and a leather steering wheel.

At 4055mm long, 1745mm wide, and 1465mm high, with a wheelbase of 2540mm, the E-208 crosses the scales at 1455kg – making it one of the lightest electric cars on sale.

Along with cheaper electric hatchbacks from Chinese brands, the E-208 is expected to compete directly with the likes of the Fiat 500e and the Mini Cooper E – to say nothing of the growing market of small electric SUVs increasingly favoured by buyers.

Ignoring recent bonuses, the Fiat 500e is priced from $52,500 before on-road costs, yet comes with a smaller 42kWh battery and 87kW/220Nm electric motor, with a claimed range of 311km.

Meanwhile, the Mini Cooper E comes with a 135kW/290Nm electric motor and 40.7kWh battery, for a range of 271km and a price tag of $53,990 before on-road costs.

Despite initially asking for expressions of interest online in 2023, Peugeot has since removed almost all references to the E-208 from its Australian website.

Peugeot also did not participate in the 2025 Everything Electric motor show in Sydney in recent weeks, despite showing the E-208 alongside the E-2008 SUV and E-Partner commercial van at the 2024 show.
