The 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander medium SUV has retained its Five-Star ANCAP safety rating following additional testing to evaluate its updated safety specifications. 

Initially launched in Australia in late 2021, the ZM-generation Mitsubishi Outlander scored a five-star rating when it was originally tested against ANCAP’s standards in 2022. 

Since 2018, manufacturers have been able to have a model reassessed by ANCAP if significant improvements have been made to the safety performance and specifications of the vehicle. A model may also be reassessed by ANCAP if safety features are removed. 

Petrol and plug-in hybrid Outlander variants built from April and July 2025, respectively, have received improved restraints, centre airbags, whiplash performance, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), and Lane Support, as well as a direct driver monitoring system and implicit speed limit detection.

The updated Outlander scored 85% in Adult Occupant Protection, 84% in Child Occupant Protection, 79% in Vulnerable Road User Protection and 70% in Safety Assist.

Vehicles are no different – safety should continually evolve, and these reassessments demonstrate manufacturers’ commitment to ongoing safety improvements,” said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, Carla Hoorweg in a media release.
