MG Motor Australia has detailed the upcoming MGU9 ute, confirming specifications and features ahead of its local launch. The ute has been designed and tested in Australia, with a focus on balancing utility, comfort, and safety.

Power comes by way of a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine paired with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission and BorgWarner Super Select 4WD system. The chassis supports a 3.5-tonne towing capacity and has been treated with anti-corrosion protection.

The MGU9 features front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension, which differentiates it from the LDV Terron 9, which — despite sharing a platform with the MGU9 — uses a solid rear axle with leaf springs.

A notable feature unique to the MGU9 is its ability to fold down the rear seats to create access between the cabin and tub, improving versatility.

A two-step electric folding tailgate is also unique to the MGU9, providing easier access to the rear tub and doubling as a seating surface with built-in cup holders. Inside, the ute offers heated and ventilated front and rear seats, a massage function for the driver, and dual 12.3-inch digital displays.

Safety equipment includes Bosch ESP 9.3 with vehicle dynamic control, traction control and automatic emergency braking. MG says the ute meets Euro NCAP five-star safety standards and has been benchmarked across Australian conditions.

While MG has not confirmed pricing, the MGU9 shares its platform with the LDV Terron 9, which launched in Australia from $50,990 drive-away for ABN holders. Given MG sells directly without a distributora – unlike LDV, which is distributed by Ateco – pricing is expected to be similar or slightly sharper, though final figures remain unannounced.
