The 2025 Kia EV4 has been unveiled, with the electric car set to take the fight directly to the ageing Tesla Model 3.

While full details have yet to be announced by Kia, it’s believed the EV4 will share much of its powertrain with the smaller EV3 – with either a single electric motor powering the front wheels, or a high-performance dual-motor set-up with all-wheel drive.

The South Korean carmaker is expected to announce the EV4’s specifications at a special event next week.

So far, it’s been an exercise in design, with Kia showing off two body styles for the EV4 – a fastback sedan, and a wagon-esque hatch.

The company has confirmed a sporty GT-Line variant is in the works, offering different front and rear bumpers and wheels – and potentially some additional performance.

Arguably the most exciting thing about the Kia EV4 is what isn’t being said: This vehicle exists to steal sales away from the best-selling Telsa Model 3 and the increasingly-popular BYD Seal.

Regardless of its recent major facelift, the Model 3 was launched eight years ago, whereas the BYD brand is still a relative newcomer to the market – potentially leaving a gap in the market for a family-sized electric vehicle from an established Asian carmaker with a focus on value.

There’s no word yet on whether the Kia EV4 is coming to Australia, however the company’s track record suggests there is a good chance local buyers will have the chance to option their own sedan or hatch in the near future.
