2025 BYD Sealion 6 Gets Extended Range Model to Challenge GWM Haval H6GT PHEV
BYD launches Sealion 6 Dynamic Extended Range in Australia with up to 140km EV range, priced at $46,990 plus on-road costs.
BYD has added a new variant to its Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid SUV lineup in Australia, the Dynamic Extended Range, priced at $46,990 plus on-road costs. It joins the existing Essential, Dynamic Standard Range, and Premium Standard Range models.
The Dynamic Extended Range uses a 26.6kWh BYD Blade Battery, increasing capacity by 45% over the Standard Range’s 18.3kWh unit. This lifts the electric-only WLTP driving range from 80–90km to 120–140km, depending on conditions.
Paired with BYD’s DM-i hybrid system, total system output is 160kW and 300Nm. Combined driving range is approximately 1,092km (WLTP), with fuel consumption listed at 1.1L/100km when starting with a sufficient battery charge.
Pricing for the Sealion 6 range in Australia is as follows:
- Sealion 6 Essential – $42,990
- Sealion 6 Dynamic Standard Range – $45,990
- Sealion 6 Dynamic Extended Range – $46,990
- Sealion 6 Premium Standard Range – $52,990
Above pricing excludes on-road costs. Optional paint is $900 across all grades.
The Dynamic Extended Range competes with the GWM Haval H6GT PHEV, which is priced at $55,990 drive-away. The GWM’s claimed electric range is up to 180km, but measured under the more lenient NEDC cycle, compared to the BYD’s WLTP rating, which is generally more stringent and closer to real-world results. The GWM also offers more performance, producing 321kW and 762Nm from its dual-motor setup, compared to the Sealion 6 Dynamic Extended Range’s 160kW and 300Nm.
The new variant’s 26.6kWh battery is also closer in size to the BYD Shark 6 plug-in hybrid ute’s 29.58kWh unit, though the Shark 6’s WLTP electric-only range is rated at 80km due to its larger size and weight.
BYD currently have no plans for an extended range version of the Premium trim level, but the possibility of such a variant hasn't been ruled out according to a spokesperson from the brand.
The Sealion 6 Dynamic Extended Range is available now, with an all-new black interior and exterior colour options including Arctic White, Stone Grey, Harbour Grey, and Cosmos Black.
