The third quarter of 2024 will see the introduction of the electric Countryman and the top-tier petrol-powered Countryman JCW.
In the German market, the base model is equipped with a mild-hybrid 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine, complemented by an electric motor. This combination provides an extra 14kW, culminating in a total of 125kW and 280Nm of torque. This engine setup allows a peak speed of 212km/h.
For the JCW variant, Mini is utilizing the same 2.0-litre turbocharged engine found in the BMW X1 M35i. In its European spec, this engine churns out 221kW (5750-6500rpm) and 400Nm (2000-4500rpm). This JCW version incorporates the dual-clutch transmission from the BMW X1 M35i, reaching a top speed of 250km/h. Interestingly, the new JCW's power is slightly reduced by 4kW and 50Nm compared to its predecessor, resulting in a marginally increased 0-100km/h time of 5.4 seconds.
In specific markets, such as the US and Australia, the BMW X1 M35i uses a variation of this engine, producing 233kW while maintaining 400Nm of torque. Whether the Countryman will adopt this configuration is yet to be clarified.
On the electric side, the Countryman E features a singular motor, generating 150kW and 250Nm of torque, boasting a 0-100km/h time of 8.6 seconds. Conversely, the Countryman SE employs a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, with a combined output of 230kW and 494Nm, achieving 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds.
Both electric variants are powered by a 64.7kWh battery. The WLTP-tested ranges for the Countryman E and SE stand at 462km and 433km, respectively.
