2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6: New Base Model Reduces Price, Enhances Range and Features
5 min read

Hyundai's Ioniq 6 for 2024 introduces a more affordable base model, lowering its entry price by $8500 and making it eligible for various state EV incentives. The new lineup, which can be ordered now with deliveries starting in the first quarter of 2024, opens at $65,500 before on-road costs. This new base model, named simply Ioniq 6, comes with a 53kWh Standard Range battery offering a 429km range, which is less than the 614km range of the carryover 77.4kWh Extended Range battery.

The entry-level Ioniq 6, despite its lower price, maintains a full suite of active safety and driver assist features, though it lacks some luxuries of the Dynamiq variant, like leather upholstery and Bose sound system. Hyundai has doubled the Ioniq 6 variants in Australia, now offering Dynamiq and Epiq trims with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive powertrains. All models now include a heat pump and battery pre-conditioning as standard, enhancing efficiency and charging performance.

The pricing for the 2024 Ioniq 6 lineup varies, with the Standard Range RWD at $65,500 and the Extended Range AWD at $85,500, among others. The lineup offers three powertrain options, with the base model featuring a 111kW/350Nm motor, and the higher trims offering up to 239kW/605Nm in dual-motor AWD configurations.

The range for the different variants varies, with the Standard Range offering 429km, and the Extended Range with 18-inch wheels delivering up to 614km. Charging times vary based on the charger, with a DC charger taking 18 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent. The vehicle dimensions include a 4855mm length and a boot space of 401L, with additional storage under the bonnet.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 comes with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty, and an eight-year, 160,000km high-voltage battery warranty. It requires servicing every 24 months or 30,000km, with capped pricing for the first two services. The model holds a five-star ANCAP rating, with high ratings in various safety categories.

Standard equipment across the range includes features like a heat pump, battery pre-conditioning, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. The base model offers 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, among other features. Higher trims like the Dynamiq and Epiq add luxury and technology features, such as 'eco-processed' leather upholstery, Bose sound systems, and the option of digital side-view mirrors for the Epiq.
